Finding & Identifying your emergency shut off points

Find and identify your emergency shut off points for water & gas so if the worst happens you are at least prepared.

The gas shut off or isolation valve may be beside your meter or on the pipework at your appliances.

If it is a straight lever – along the pipe is on, across the pipe at a 90 angle is off.

For newer properties the water isolation valve may be located next to all sinks, toilet cisterns etc. Where your house is older it could be at one point – cupboard under the kitchen sink, where the water pipe comes into your house or out in the garden or street.

To shut off the water supply, turn the valve clockwise to close, or so the lever is across the pipe
